Nude Robot Descending a Staircase
Multiple frames of a robot walk cycle - selected at once. LC 2008
The title of this entry is of course a play on Marcel Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase" pictured here. Today it's easy to select a few frames of a Flash animation and show them superimposed, or click the Trail effect button on your Fairlight, but Marcel hadn't got his computer yet when he did this painting in 1912. He'd probably seen a film or two, and some of Eadweard Muybridge's photos but I still love this painting depicting movement over time in a single image.

Home Cinema Mural
Mural based on the movie "Cinema Paradiso"
My client built a house with a home cinema and built the cinema screen permanently into the wall. But they built it the wrong size and then had to install a new screen that rolls up and down over the top of the original one. This serendipitously left the original screen as a blank-white-canvas-like space set into the wall and I was given the task of painting a mural on it.
The mural is based on the movie, "Cinema Paradiso" and my client's parents come from the Italian town of Oppido, so we changed the name of the cinema depicted in the mural from Cinema Paridiso to Cinema Oppidiso.
2.5m square - oils
